Different sports with scholarships
Sports (athletic) scholarships are offered by colleges and universities to recruit student-athletes. They can cover part or all of tuition, room, board, fees, and sometimes books. Amounts and head counts vary by sport, division, and school. NCAA Division I and II schools offer athletic scholarships; NAIA and NJCAA schools do too. Division III schools do not offer athletic scholarships but may offer need-based and academic aid. Each sport has a limit on how many scholarships a team can give (e.g. full or partial “equivalencies”), and coaches decide who gets them.
To be considered, you typically need to register with the right eligibility center (NCAA Eligibility Center, NAIA Eligibility Center, or similar for your organization), meet academic and amateurism rules, and get on coaches’ radar through recruiting—highlight reels, camps, and direct contact. Requirements differ by association and division; eligibility centers explain the rules and document submission process. Deadlines and “recruiting calendars” also vary, so student-athletes and families should plan early.
For sport-specific limits, eligibility rules, and how to get recruited, use official NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA resources and each school’s athletics site. Our directory helps you find platforms that list or explain athletic scholarship opportunities; we do not run or process applications.
