The Gates Millennium Scholars Program (GMS) is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and administered by the UNCF. It offers a last-dollar scholarship that covers the full cost of attendance—tuition, fees, room, board, books, and other educational expenses—for outstanding, Pell-eligible minority students pursuing a first undergraduate degree at an accredited U.S. college or university. You can study any major.
Eligible groups are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, and Hispanic American. The program aims to increase representation of these groups in higher education. Beyond funding, GMS provides leadership development, mentoring, and academic support. You must be nominated by your college or university and complete the FAFSA; the application is submitted through the official GMS portal (gmsp.org) with strict deadlines—typically in mid-January for the following fall.
